The carved cliff seen here in Red Rock Canyon, north of the Spanish Ranch section, appears to depict an old brand, perhaps the "rafter cross L" or some other variation. There may well be a date included, "03" perhaps indicating 1903, which is well after the establishment of the ranch. The other figures are even a greater mystery. This location is well off the beaten path but in 1903 may well have been part of open range that allowed access from the Cuyama Valley.
Web searches and discussions with old timers have so far been fruitless.

Various oral histories have hinted at a tragic death on the ranch during the Arnold period. What they seem to agree on is that somewhere in the "Taylor" section of the ranch, a dozer operator was killed when he accidentally fell from the dozer and was then run over by the tracks. If you have any information about this incident, please let us know.
