The Chimineas Ranch Foundation is a classic example of the kind of public-private partnership that state facilities need in these times of economic stress. However, the story is deeper than that for there are a host of private entities that came together in a "working group" to help give birth to the new Foundation by providing funding and/or volunteer expertise and effort:
Arroyo Grande Sportsmens Club
Audubon California
California Deer Association-Central Coast Chapter
Quail Unlimited
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation-San Fernando Valley Chapter
Santa Maria Valley Sportsmens Association
The Nature Conservancy
San Luis Outdoor Panters for the Environment (SLOPE)
Our biggest and best partner is the California Department of Fish & Game. DFG owns and controls the 30,000 acres that comprise the Chimineas Ranch Units of the Carrizo Plains Ecological Reserve.
While the Foundation exists to help DFG manage the reserve, we owe much to the responsive and dedicated local DFG staff that we work hand-in-hand with to accomplish our mutual goals.
